How to call people with net phones and Voice over the Net - VoIP

As a signaling protocol, SIP brings methods and techniques to solve the issues related to the establishing of an audio link. Almost as important, it is a recognised standard, implemented on many network devices and systems.

It is difficult to summarize, in one paragraph, how to talk over the Internet. The method is Voip - voice over internet protocol, while the signaling is SIP - session intiation protocol. Then add other SIP providers as you get time. Now, why don't we recommend EyeP Phone from EyeP Media? Because the sound quality is poor unless you buy the registered version. Get it if you want it though. You can test your firewall with the EyeP Phone by calling out on line 1. It should ring back in on line 2 or 3, but you can't talk to yourself. This version of the eyeP phone is hard to get.

If you download an Xten phone from FWD, right click on your phone once you have it configured. Select the service provider from the list. If you only have FWD as a provider, select it. You will hear a short dial tone. Try dialing 411 with FWD. Here is a list of numbers on FDW.

Any service should let you dial a toll free number using their service. Normally, you select your provider, then dial *, then 1, and the number. Example: *18005551212 is toll free information 1-800-555-1212. Dialing 411 on FWD is actually a shortcut to 1-800-555-tell, and therefore is available from your home phones, or any SIP VOIP provider that allows toll free dialing. As of this writing, Addaline does not provide toll free with their free service.
